Leading through conflict
A local government council were engaged in a robust deliberation regarding suitable policy steps to address community concern regarding global conflicts. The nature of the issues and strong feelings amongst councillors had led the chief executive to be concerned that obligations for psychological safety may be breached.
Mārama Group joined councillors in a facilitated conversation to consider the communication requirements of elected representatives alongside the expectations of communities, assisting the leadership group to navigate communication in complex conflict.
Some individuals in the group took advantage of a mediation option to work through specific elements of the conflict that were making reaching agreement difficult. This assisted the CEO and whole group to be confident that statutory obligations for safety and well being were being met.
